Graduate & Five-Year Bachelor's
to Master's Programs
Christopher Newport University offers graduate programs in three
disciplines: Applied
Physics and Computer Science,
Environmental Science, and
Teaching. Each program provides the
small classes and dedicated faculty
that are the hallmark of a CNU education. Each provides plenty
of opportunities to conduct research and gain practical experience.
Each offers evening and part-time options to accommodate the
needs of working professionals.
Each program also offers a special option for CNU undergraduates.
Through the
Five-Year Bachelor’s to Master’s Program,
you can earn your master’s degree in one of our graduate disciplines
with just one additional year beyond the senior year.
Applied Physics and Computer Science
With an M.S. in applied physics and computer science,
your
career will take a significant step forward. An M.S. degree
means higher-level employment with better job security and higher
pay, and provides excellent preparation for Ph.D. studies. You
can choose from three areas of concentration—computer
science,
computer systems engineering and instrumentation, and
applied physics—to prepare for advanced careers in software
development, hardware design and data acquisition, and physics
research.
We’re located in the heart of high-tech Hampton Roads, so
you’ll have plenty of opportunities for hands-on experience.
You might participate in funded research at
Thomas Jefferson
National Accelerator Facility or
NASA Langley Research Center; solve industry problems at
the Applied
Research Center (ARC), a new state-of-the-art research consortium
for four area universities; or create papers and presentations
for national conferences and publications .More
Environmental
Science
Environmental monitoring and conservation is a dynamic, growing
field with a plethora of career opportunities. With a master
of science degree in environmental science from CNU, you’ll
be ready to launch, or advance, a remarkable career.
Designed for students planning to pursue a Ph.D., teachers
wanting a M.S. in a biological science, or students interested
in careers with environmental agencies, the program provides
a solid background in ecological and environmental conservation
theory. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on fieldwork, arming
you with a first-hand knowledge of the environment and environmental
assessment methods.
More
Teaching
A master of arts degree in teaching will prepare you to take
on new challenges in the classroom—and it translates to higher
salaries, too. At CNU, you’ll work closely with dedicated professors
from 13 academic departments as well as with practicing schoolteachers.
What’s more, CNU’s partnership with the award-winning
Newport News
Public Schools means that you’ll engage in field experiences
with practicing teachers even before student teaching.
