Curriculum
In today’s world, nothing stands still. Technologies and business practices change with the seasons, and new careers emerge daily. In such a world, how can you prepare for a life of significance and responsible citizenship?

By learning to think analytically, to communicate well—and to adapt.

At Christopher Newport, we’ve designed a curriculum that will help you do just that. Our Liberal Learning Core reaches across disciplines and job descriptions to develop your talents and prepare you for a dynamic future—whatever career path you choose.

Core classes are challenging and interesting. This year’s First-Year Seminar includes topics such as Discovering Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, Ghosts in Art and Literature, Exploring U.S. Culture through Film, and Guns and Politics.

To fulfill Liberal Learning Core requirements, you’ll take 46 to 48 semester hours of core courses during your college career. In addition to the First-Year Seminar, courses focus on writing, reasoning, mathematical literacy, the natural world, societies, and more.
